The Sobriety Circle & Triangle Symbol equilateral triangle represents the 3 part solution- Unity, Recovery and Service - to a 3 part disease - Physical, Mental and Spiritual, while the circle represents wholeness or oneness.
The body should be triangular, stable, the mind circular, open.
The triangle represents the means for generation of good energy, and is the most stable physical posture.
The circle symbolizes serenity and perfection, and the source of unlimited potential. Together they represent the perfect union of mind and body.
We adopted the concept and symbol for AA:
"The circle stands for the whole world of A.A., and the triangle stands for A.A.'s Three Legacies of Recovery, Unity, and Service. Within our wonderful new world, we have found freedom from our fatal obsession. That we have chosen this particular symbol is perhaps no accident. The priests and seers of antiquity regarded the circle enclosing the triangle as a means of warding off spirits of evil, and A.A.'s circle and triangle of Recovery, Unity, and Service has certainly meant all of that to us and much more."
(Bill W., Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age, Bill W.’s 1955 speech)
In the early 1990s, A.A.W.S. decided to begin eliminating the use of the Circle and Triangle symbol on its literature, letterhead and other material. It had become too costly and too controversial for AA to try to continue to defend its rights to this symbol. It was "officially" and "legally" phased out after the 1994 General Service Conference resolved that the logo be discontinued on all Conference-approved literature. However, the symbol is still associated with Alcoholics Anonymous (and other kinds of 12-Step recovery fellowships) and has a special meaning for AA members all over the world.
So where am I with treating all three sides of my disease today??
In Unity I am here right now as an energetic placement holder in the meeting and my other meetings holding the line and Traditions for the next sick and suffering alcoholic and in energetic support of the current members suffering with untreated alcoholism but sober. I stand in the truth that we do recover.
We, of Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other alcoholics precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book.
In Service-I am in service as an upright citizen in my community-no longer a treat or liability to my family or neighbors. And as such that makes me open to being of service to them-and trust me, they see the "in service light" over my head if I'm out there! I serve both my online groups in service positions.
Where am I with God and the 12 Steps (Personal Recovery)
I just did my gratitude list, doing this, will correspond with sponsees, open to sponsoring others, intending on bringing God with me in all my adventures today, mowing lawns and other tasks, always asking God to guide me even in the most mundane to be fully presence with a open mind and heart to receive new information on the best way to go about carrying out my daily tasks-no matter what it is-Gods coming with me.
It's yard work season and I have a lot to do before it gets crazy hot here. I have opted out of doing a garden this year to focus on landscape and overhaul of property so I can put a permanent space for my gardens to come (God willing).
When I overhaul anything in the physical-home, closet, pantry, shed, chicken coop, I'm always reminded over the spiritual overhaul I endured with my initial workings of the Steps-It was A LOT of stuff that had be be laid laid out and rummaged through and most was taking to the spiritual dump! I could begin to see what I had packed into my mind, body and spirit that began to clutter and stink up my space.
That garbage will accumulate to the point that others have to contend with my unexamined life-including family, community, neighbors, fellowship, pets, people on the road, employees/employers...ect. Once I was able to get the bulk of the icky stuff out, that made room for some disinfecting light of God to trickle into my neglected spiritual house. That light revealed some more unuseable outdated information that needed to be removed...Yay more room!!
Problem is, is that nature abhors a vacuum...in other words, where there is empty space-it will be filled. SO depending upon where I am each day will determine what new stuff I accumulate and fill that space with. If we are here a while and have been resting on our laurels we may have filled that space with more external and material because we didn't expand upon our relation with God and fill that space with new information from the Sunlight of the Spirit. This is why we must do a general house cleaning every day to treat all the side of our disease to NOT get bogged down in self seeking bondage which will just make the next overhaul that much harder.
Every day is a new beginning to take up my bed and simply say "Here I am" what would you have me do today? How would you have me see them or this? How would you have me see myself? How do I balance my checkbook? How do I respond to this email? How should I go about structuring my future garden?
God be with me in all my actions, thoughts and words as I am open to having a new experience today even if that means that I was wrong about some stuff yesterday....I am willing to be made whole and new!!
